I see painter continues to get speedier but I always find those brushes that bring it to a crawl and yet I don’t see this behavior in any other drawing and painting app. Ok, I have been thru Painter upgrades and yes it continues to gain in speed, but it needs to and I’m sure it’s brush engine or engines are the culprit because it can be humming along you choose a heavy hitter brush and bring it into a hi-res canvas and things come to a crawl immediately and in the past it was make the brush unusable so it really didn’t matter what it did because it’s not doing it or at least not at the defined resolution.

#8 Slow as Sh*t - did someone just drop a brick on my Mac Painter always has a non-standard feel to me, to that I mean it worked “differently” than other apps most notably Adobe products, and where that may not be a bad thing it does have your UI going in un-foreseen areas to the user and in fact they had to adapt more to the Adobe standard of files and UI tool sets to be more useful to Photoshop users and this was early on before photoshops dominate in the graphics field but recognizing Adobe’s dominance with their other tools such as Illustrator and having to work with them as much as possible. I would start working or really experimenting trying to figure things out and the more palettes I opened the more lost I got - numbers of hair in my brush, all those adjustments but never a good predicable behaving brush and a lot of the natural media brushes I actually don’t know the real counter part so it’s hard to determine the “realness” of the brushes but I have seen the work produced and it’s just amazingly realistic just not on my monitor - maybe my monitor was broke. OMG, The pallets stuffed with selections, what does this do, what does that do, what does any of this do and trying to remember where the pallet you just used is or the setting you used 27 steps back, It was always overwhelming. #10 A zillion pallets with a zillion selections in each

Everything to do with brushes seems so overly and unnecessarily complex, From loading them, to defining and adjusting them and then to the overall experience of using them, you can use these here but not there on that layer, try to use another brush and wait, not on that type of layer.I couldn’t just draw and paint without creating a whole lotta dialog boxes telling me I can't do this or I can't do that.Geez, Alight already, I get it - NO! Right out of box Painter was a constant uphill struggle of learning with everything not connecting or being logical, well at least to me.

So this began my trial and tribulations with Painter and being and artist and illustrator I knew I wanted to learn and master both since Painter was a dedicated artist tool and Photoshop being for image editing, remember Photoshop didn’t have a brush engine like today, in fact layering was not available till a few versions later ALL PHOTOSHOP VERSIONS AND FEATURES and with just a few filters, so it really was established in the image editing arena doing effects with Photoshop back before layers were introduced you used sections to make masks and it could be quite advanced the terms was called having your “chops”.
